Doom & Bloom Books celebrates the best climate fiction, including new releases and classics, to promote this important emerging genre. Climate fiction, or “cli-fi,” is a genre where climate change is integral to the plot or backdrop of the story. I launched Doom & Bloom Books because climate fiction isn’t getting enough attention! Maybe people feel fatigued from all the doomsday headlines and think, “Ugh, I can’t read more tragedy.” But cli-fi is full of inspirational stories as well! We need more people to read both the cli-fi cautionary tales and stories about what’s possible.
I review fiction books that, in my humble (unscientific, non-MFA) opinion, are important works. I’ll also share climate nonfiction resources that I read to stay current on science trends. I’m biased towards nonfiction books that are optimistic about what people can do to change the world for the better.
About Adele Sloane
Hi, I’m Adele Sloane, the author of the Doom and Bloom Books website. Adele Sloane is my pseudonym. In ‘real life,’ I’m a climate resilience professional with twenty years of experience helping people make better buildings and cities. I live in Coastal South Florida, one of the most vulnerable areas in the U.S. to flooding and extreme heat.
Sometimes the climate crisis keeps me up at night, but most days I’m an optimist. I love reading hopeful climate literature that interweaves science with storytelling. Besides blogging, I’m working on my first novel about a woman struggling with climate anxiety and isolation. Oh, and there’s a terrible memoir stored on a cloud that will be read by no one.
When not reading or writing, I’m usually obsessing over other people’s dogs (I don’t have one of my own), listening to podcasts, or trying to limit myself to two cups of coffee a day.
